Tambaram railway station is grabbing many eyeballs for this reason

Among the 85 railway stations, the railway station at Tambaram has now secured first place in the number of suburban passengers transported and money earned.  By this, Tambaram railway station has now established itself as a true multi-modal transport hub. It is superb to mention here that this Tambaram railway station located on the GST Road provides easy access to long distance as well as to inter-city bus services.

Among the 4 suburban sections with 15 railway stations, the Tambaram/ Chengalpattu -Chennai Beach section is the most used section. This was according to the passenger user data available by the southern railways. Information collected is one crore threshold was crossed in the above mentioned section in the financial year 2018-19 and that is superb. It must be noted that 10 out of 15 stations belongs to Tambaram/Chengalpattu- Chennai Beach section.

The surprising information is Tambaram railway station alone has transported more than 2.75 crores passengers by which it had earned the highest collection amount of Rs 36.80 crores. The commuter usage of this railway station was 2.68 crores in 2017-18 and the amount earned was Rs 27.75 crores.

It is worthy to note that the daily footfall was estimated at 75,442. It is well known that Chennai Beach railway station is the hub for suburban train services that includes MRTS, Gummidipoondi and Avadi lines. This Chennai Beach railway station came second by transporting 1.92 crore passengers and the amount earned was Rs 14.62 crores.

Superb information that has come out is there are also other railway stations that have clocked over 1 crore passengers. These railway stations are Chengalpattu, Guduvancherry, Chromepet, Pallavaram, St Thomas Mount, Guindy, Mambalam, Nungambakkam and Egmore.

The railway station at Velachery was used by 97 lakh passengers and this was followed by the Thiruvanmiyur railway station that was used by 46 lakh passengers. This has been in the MRTS section.
