Now the second highest toll collection comes from Tamil Nadu

The news that NHAI or National Highways Authority of India getting its second highest toll collection from the state of Tamil Nadu has been the topic for discussion for many now.  Important information collected now is the roads in the country, gateways and the roads on the outskirts of the Chennai city are bad and a cause for concern. It is now said that every Rs 11 out of Rs 100 that goes to coffers of NHAI is from TN.

It is important to mention that the presence of battered roads, poor lighting and absence of basic amenities at the toll plazas make the lives of many motorists difficult. A resident belonging to Ayanambakkam who often use the busy PH. Road in Chennai spoke about how the stretch between Vanagaram and Poonamallee bypass has become an accident prone area.

Few motorists complained about the condition of the Chennai bypass road that was not up to the mark. It was then pointed out by a resident belonging to Gerugambakkam that the road do not have the lights and the road is extremely dark from Porur to Perungalathur after dusk.  He was of the view that certain portions of the road must be laid once again. In the last 2 calendar years, the collection of toll at TN has been increased by Rs 70 crores. This was according to union ministry of road transport and highways.

In the fiscal 2017-18, and amount of Rs 751.37 crores has been collected in the toll plazas in the state of TN. In the fiscal 2018-19, an amount of Rs 819.42 crores was collected. Later,it was revealed by a data belonging to the union ministry that the state of TN contributed 11 percent of total revenue that has been collected in India in 2018-19.

Information is the state of Uttar Pradesh collected a toll amount of Rs 1353 crores and topped the collection in India. Motorists face many issues when they travel in the northern fringes of Chennai to Tada section of NH5. Point is at Karanodai near Red Hills the traffic congestion becomes heavy creating many issues. Mr. S. Yuvaraj, president of TN State Sand Lorry Owner’s federation, explained that they have given complaints to NHAI about the traffic congestion but no action has been taken till now.

The poor maintenance of Vanagaram- Walahabad road has been cited as the main reason for the heavy traffic congestion. Mr. Yuvaraj then threw light on how they have gone to the extent of giving complaints against the project officer who has been responsible for this. He commented about how none of the toll plazas around Chennai such as Paranur near Chengalpet and Vijayanallur on NH5 has got facilities for the motorists.
