The TNSCB or Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board across the city of Chennai is facing water shortage problem now. It is now said that this water shortage problem is the third issue faced by these tenements and the other two issues already present are poor infrastructure and inadequate security. Point is some colonies complain of lack of water supply and others complain of poor quality of water present.

It is well known that Perumbakkam is a suburb present in the south Chennai and is near to the IT corridor of OMR. In this place there are as many as 14000 families. The residents have mentioned that Perumbakkam has been among the worst affected.

A resident of Perumbakkam spoke about how the water supply has been erratic and how they save 4 pots of water for a period of 2 days. She later shed light on how the water supply lasts for just 10 minutes. Point is carrying water to the upper floors has been very difficult as the elevators are not working properly. The resident finally spoke about how the schools do not have water supply for their toilets and how this has caused huge issues for the children. There are more than 5800 houses present in the site near Ernavoor and the situation is same. In the beginning, discoloured water was got and later this water was also stopped.

It was then mentioned by a resident of Ernavoor that those with money dug bore wells and purchase water for Rs 5 per pot. She threw light on how the schools do not have water supply in them and how the TNSCB officials did not take responsibility but had asked the residents to handle the issue.

It is the quality of water that has been creating issues for those belonging to other resettlement colonies in Chennai. A resident belonging to Kannagi Nagar expressed his thoughts and spoke about how the water is yellow or black and has got worms also. It is worthy to mention that Kannagi Nagar has got around 25000 houses. There are more than 1000 houses each in places like Athipattu and Gudapakkam but the issues were similar to those in Perumbakkam and Ernavoor.

Resident belonging to Gudapakkam complained about how the buckets used to store water become greasy. Information collected is some of the tenements like those in Kannagi Nagar, Semmencheri were provided with the piped water supply. This was as per the officials of metro water department.
