Posted on: 08/Jun/2019 2:00:49 PM
Hey! All vehicle drivers! Tough times are up from now! Especially if you are a chronic violator of traffic rules! Note that before the traffic police catch you, your fellow motorist might call you out!

As they have been totally outnumbered by traffic violators, the Chennai Police has reached out to the public for help! A new Mobile App is being launched with which citizens can report traffic violations!

The App is called ‘GCTP Citizen Services’ and will be available from next week, ope3rating on Android and IOS and can be used to report any traffic violation such as helmetless riding, jumping signals, illegal parking, riding triple, recklessly driven MTC buses, using cell phones while driving, etc.

The App will also let users take photographs of the violations and upload them. Note that the photos are to be taken on the spot cannot be uploaded from elsewhere. This is to prevent users from uploading morphed images to settle personal scores or mislead the traffic police!

The Joint Commissioner of Police Traffic, R. Sudhakar, shared in this regard: ‘The app will automatically detect the location, date, and time and forward it to the officer concerned’.

In case the reported violation is unsubstantiated with evidence, the Traffic Police will issue a challan and send it to the violator’s address. Citizens can monitor progress on their complaints through the App with the help of a ticket number. Further, the officer who initiates action will upload his/her remark.

Sri Anubhav, Deputy Commissioner, Traffic Police  (East), observed that in case the complainant observes that no action has been taken, he/she can escalate to the next level officer. The App allows the users to check the pending challans in their name and pay online.

Commissioner Viswanathan observed: ‘This App will empower the citizens. Enforcement has been simplified and with such tightened in place, people should think twice about violating any traffic rules. ‘ He urged: ‘The complainants should first follow traffic rules and the pin to others and click photographs.’

The features/procedure for the usage of App:

1.     Download App and register.

2.     Home page has options to pay e-challan, create offence, and create a complaint, verify auto/cab.

3.     Tap on ‘create offence’. The camera will open and the app will detect location, time, and date.

4.     Attach a photo, specify the nature of the offence, and send.
