Visitors at Anna Centenary library in Chennai are unhappy with the facilities

In the year 2010, Anna Centenary library was opened in Kotturpuram in Chennai in a vast area of 3.75 lakh square feet is well known. The amazing piece of information is this library is regarded as largest state-of-art libraries. Important point is in this popular library there are stinking toilets, dusty premises and non-operational escalator present and these create issues for the visitors. The shocking piece of news is Anna Centenary library in Kotturpuram is now reduced to another public library because of way it is being handled by the authorities.

In this library, the toilets were found to be broken plus some workstations that could be used by the visitors to access e-books and the lone escalator were not functioning properly. It is said that the visitors were highly unhappy regarding these issues in this superb library. In addition to these issues the visitors have to go in search of food as the canteen was closed.

It was pointed out by Mr. N. Meenakshisundaram, who is studying doctorate in law that the facilities at the Anna Centenary library has gone for a toss and have turned from good to worse now. He mentioned about the work stations, where the visitors could check out the catalogues, were not working properly.

Mr. Meenakshisundaram was disappointed about the fact that this library that was once considered to be having the best resources in Chennai city has gone down. It must be noted that he has been visiting this library since 2011 as a civil services aspirant to prepare for the competitive exams.

The interesting information is this magnificent library in Chennai has got vast collection of 6.10 lakhs books stocked in multiple sections of various subjects. For those preparing for civil services examination and other state examinations etc, the library has got own books reading section. Everyday about 1250 people visit this library in Chennai.

The absence of canteen has been a major issue for Mr. P. Udhayakumar who has been visiting this library as he is preparing for the railway recruitment and TNPSC. He spoke about how he and others who are preparing for the competitive exams have to depend on the canteen present on the neighbouring Anna University campus etc. Finally he revealed about the canteen that was operating in this library till last year and how it offered food at subsidized rates.

It was later pointed by some sources that interiors of glass facade were dusty and were not cleaned for several months together. Another piece of information got is the paint over the roof was peeling and visible on the gigantic structure on the Gandhi Mandapam Road. It has been confirmed by the official sources of this library that measures have been taken to repair the toilets.
