For the schools to operate, getting recognition from the government is necessary.  The news is atleast 760 private schools in the state of TN which includes 50 schools in and around Chennai city might face closure if these schools do not get recognition from the government.

It is important to mention that some had admitted the students claiming to be affiliated to CBSE whereas others were either private matriculation or primary and nursery schools claiming to have recognition from the state directorate for elementary education. The point to be noted is the schools would get a chance to apply for recognition next week before a committee. This committee would be set up to look into the matter of recognition is known. This was as per an internal communication dated May 15th issued by the directorate.

A senior official belonging to the state school education department spoke about how those schools that were found ineligible would be shut down. It must be taken into account that no school could operate without the recognition of the state government and this was according to RTE Act 2009.

The point is in Tirupur itself as many as 86 schools did not get recognition from the state government and this was out of total of 760 schools in TN. The renewal for the recognition must be carried out every 3 years of time. There are some minimum land requirement specified by the respective state governments and it is now said that to apply for recognition/renewal, each school must meet this land requirement.

In TN, for running a school in the corporation area, 33 cents of lands must be available. Any person wanting to run school in the municipal, town panchayat and village panchayat areas must have one, two and three acres of lands respectively. It is worth mentioning that the schools must obtain building stability certificate from the local body, fire safety certificate and NOC from the health department.

The point is around 2000 schools that did not meet the criteria went to the court. It is brought out that the state government has extended temporary recognition that was granted to these schools in 2018. The shocking information is in the month of April 2019 a private school in Chennai was found to be operating without recognition. The officials of the school education department found it difficult as they were unable to move these children to another nearby recognized school in the middle of the academic year.
