Corporation schools belonging to GCC to get renovated soon

Posted on: 10/May/2019 9:47:22 AM
As many as 281 schools are being run by Greater Chennai Corporation or GCC is known. The news is these schools would get a makeover at the cost of RS 200 crores. This would be carried out once the Lok Sabha results are announced. The important information is these corporation schools would get distinct architectural style.

It was pointed out by the officials of GCC that the architects would be finalizing the style of Chennai corporation schools after studying the existing facilities in these schools. An official explained about how the makeover would be possible with a tie-up for funding. He then shed light on how the aspirations of the poor have changed and they look for better education in the private schools. After the makeover, the education that would be offered to the kids would be the best and this was also confirmed by the official.

The surprising piece of information is at the meeting that took place to discuss about this issue, the officials discussed about migrating to CBSE to improve the standard of education for the poor kids of residents belonging to Chennai city slums.

The syllabus offered by the TN School Education Department was amongst the best in India and this was according to some senior officials. Hence the idea of migrating to CBSE was dropped. To study the gaps in the infrastructure of the schools, a committee would be considered. It must be noted that the infrastructure of the schools and modernisation of the methods of teaching would be the main focus.

It is amazing to mention that the corporation schools would be getting boarding facilities plus world class sports infrastructure. An amount of more than Rs 200 crores would be required and this was as per preliminary estimates. The authorised strength of Chennai based corporation schools was 1.7 lakh students but over the last few years many schools have been recording a dip due to re-settlement of slum residents along the Cooum and Adyar rivers.

In places like Chintadripet, Pudupet, Triplicane and Chepauk, GCC had merged as many as 30 schools some 10 years ago are known. The point is few schools were reopened after stiff opposition from the opposition parties. More than 1.3 lakh students were present during the merger of 30 schools. The shocking information is the strength of 281 corporation schools in GCC has reduced to less than 85,000 this year and this is after the dip.
