Activity initiated to take water from deep bore wells in Thiruvallur to counter the acute drinking water shortage in Chennai

As the reservoirs which supply drinking water to Chennai Metro City have all dried up, CMWSSB (The Chennai Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board) has initiated activities to take water from the 94 deep bore wells in Thiruvallur District agricultural lands.
The present total capacity of drinking water in the 4 major water reservoirs that supply drinking water to Chennai Metro City, Poondi, Puzhal, Chozhavaram, and Sembarambakkam is only 297 million cft.
Out of this, the lakes at Sembarambakkam and Chozhavaram have completely dried up.
So, presently, 550 million litres of drinking water supply for Chennai Metro City is arranged on alternate days from desalination plants, Veeranam lake, Rock-quarries, and Poondi & Puzhal lakes.
In this situation, an official from CMWSSB explained regarding the activities undertaken by CMWSSB to meet the acute drinking water shortage problem:
In order to counter this acute drinking water shortage, water is taken from the 94 deep bore wells located in Thiruvallur district agricultural lands through pipes.
Activities have been initiated to take 15 million litres of water daily from the 35 deep bore wells located at Keezhanur near Thiruvallur. 10 million litres of water will be taken daily from the 24 agricultural deep bore wells located at Athangi Kavanur. Similarly, 15 million litres of water will be taken daily from the 35 agricultural deep bore wells in the village Makaral.
Presently, water is being taken from the Makaral village on an experimental basis. The pumped water from here will be stored in 2 huge tanks of CMWSSB and then sent to Chennai.
Further, 15.50 million litres of water is taken daily from the already existing 7 deep bore wells in the Makaral Pumping Station, newly drilled 7 more deep bore wells and the 27 deep bore weeks of CMWSSB located in Thamaraippakkam, Velliyur, and Poondi.
