Thamizhachi Thangapandian is a Tamil poet, writer, dancer, dramatist and a spokesperson. She is a very successful and versatile woman who has always received appraisal and respect for her work. She was born in a small village called Mallanginaru in the Viruthunagar district of Tamil Nadu. Her real name was Sumathy, which she later changed to Thamizhachi to express her deep love and admiration for the Tamil culture. 

Her father, V. Thangapandian was a highly educated man who was a teacher by profession. He later turned to politics and joined the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Party, after which he won the elections and became a member of the legislative assembly of Tamil Nadu.

Thamizhachi Thangapandian is a learned woman herself. After completing her graduation and post graduation from Meenakshi college and Thiyagarajar college, she decided to pursue M.Phil. in English literature. Till 2009, she worked as an English lecturer in Chennai.

She has written a large number of poems and articles and her literary works have been published as several books, some of which are the Vanapechi, Arukan, Kalamum Kavithaiym, Manjanathiin Tamil and Island to Island in English. 

She has received numerous awards and accolades for her literary works including the highly esteemed Pavendhar Bharathidasan award in 2009. She has also performed as a theater artist and has received the Young Achievers Trophy in Theatre. In 2014, she wrote the story for the Tamil paranormal thriller Pisaasu.

The 2019 Lok Sabha election is her first electoral race.

The Parliamentary Constituency of Chennai (South)  is one of the 39 Lok Sabha Constituencies of Tamil Nadu.  19,73,315 is the total electorate count in the Chennai (South)   Lok Sabha Constituency (constituency number 12). Out of these 9,79,480 number of electorates are males and the remaining  9,93,446 are belong to the female category and 389 are belong to Third Gender as the Election commission of India 2019 reports suggest.
