100 more lorries to be hired by Metro Water in Chennai

The news is the people of Chennai are now depending more on the water supplied from tanker lorries. The main reason behind this is because of the fact that Chennai city is suffering from water scarcity now. There have been many complaints due to delay in the delivery of tanker loads of water.

The point is in order to tackle this issue of delay Chennai Metro Water has planned to divert water supply to the affected places and not only that it would also hire additional 100 more lorries so that the  growing demand for water supply is met.

After booking, it takes 20 days for the tanker load to arrive and this has been a regular issue in places like Triplicane, Choolaimedu and Adyar etc. Residents in these places find their lives very difficult and they complained about the delay. As per some residents belonging to Triplicane, water that is supplied by Metro Water either by pipeline or by tanker is the only source available at present as the ground level water has dipped now. It must be taken into account that the ‘dial for water service’ is getting more number of calls every day as the 4 reservoirs that supply water to Chennai has been going dry.

The point is the number of lorry trips operated every day has increased rapidly and on Wednesday the lorry trips touched amazing 7071. This is 500 more trips than the all the lorries made in the month of February. It is brought out that 2600 lorry trips are operated for the sake of payment.

It was then pointed out by few residents belonging to Lake Area in Nungambakkam that lorries that were not in contract with the Metro Water continued to be used. Here the part of the name on the lorry is blacked out and the lorries indulged in illegal transfer of water filled from Metro water distribution points to the private tankers. Point is Metro water had earlier reduced supply of water to commercial establishments due to water crisis. There were some lorries present in Prakasam Road and in the Kodambakkam High Road and these lorries continue to operate illegal trips.
