Pammal and Anakaputhur in south Chennai are important localities. It is now said that water from the 5 abandoned quarries in these places would be drawn from this month of March and the water would be supplied to the residents here.

There are as many as 3 quarries in Pammal and 2 quarries in Anakaputhur and they can collectively hold 600 million litres of water. As per a senior official belonging to Municipal Administration and Water Supply or MAWS it is clear that water from these 5 quarries in these places would be drawn and later distributed to nearly 1.5 lakh residents here for nearly 240 days from the Senkazhuneermalai quarries. The important information is Pammal has got population of 90,000 and Anakaputhur has got 55,000 people.

It is now revealed that MAWS would draw 2.5 million litres of water a day from the 5 quarries and pump it into the sumps in Anakaputhur and Pammal. Officer then explained about how these places get water from Palar and from TN Water Supply and Drainage Board. The information collected is water from the quarries would be added to the above mentioned and would be distributed to the residents.

The point is in the next couple of days, a motor from Mumbai would come to Chennai. Pumping trials would be carried out by the officials once when the motor is installed. Leakage in the pipelines would be checked thoroughly and then water would be drawn from the quarries. The unique feature about the pump is it would float in the water. Once the water level goes down then the pump would also go down and water would be drawn.

The officer then threw light on the fact that this type of motor would be used only in the Sikkarayapuram quarries that supplies water to the Chennai city. In the first week, testing would be carried out and in another week checking the pipelines would be done. When these works get finished then water would be drawn from the quarries. The officer finally hinted that from the end of this month of March water supply to both the residential areas could be possible.
