In Chennai, Kathipara hub to offer integration of various modes of transport

The latest news is by the month of August the multimodal urban square at Kathipara constructed by CMRL would offer seamless integration of various modes of transport. It is now said that commuters going towards Alandur metro station would be able to sit on the bench to see the greeneries around or take food from a food stall or even do shopping before taking an MTC bus. The point is all these could be done even with vehicles zipping through on the Kathipara flyover above.
As per a metro rail official it is clear that the land available has been put to optimum use and the design would provide lung space in the concrete jungle. The important information gathered is it would also be a safe environment for the commuters.
The amazing piece of news is this urban square would be a multimodal hub and it would be linking Alandur metro station, Guindy metro station, Guindy suburban railway station and Alandur and Guindy bus stops. An amount of Rs 14 crores was used to build this urban square is known. It was pointed out by the officials that for the smooth movement of the passengers across various modes of transport, urban square would have several facilities in the 5.85 lakhs square feet space.
Various facilities that would be present are bus bays for both MTC as well as for the outstation buses, parking space plus others like waiting area, food stalls, ATM, kids playing area and landscaping. It is worthy to mention here that the Alandur metro station would be the closest so the urban square would e linked by means of a pathway.
In addition to this the foot over bridge that is under construction in front of Alandur metro station would also be linked. As per the officials, bus bay would come closer to the Alandur station and blocks to set up food stalls would be located just opposite to the popular Le Royal Meridien Hotel along with washrooms. An official hinted about open air theatre that would be coming on the other side of the clover leaf opposite to the Central Footwear Training Institute.
