Most of us would have come across long queue of people waiting outside a movie hall or outside a ration shop etc. On Sunday, 24th February 2019, there was long queue of people who waited for different reason. The voter enrolment camps in Chennai city had full of residents yesterday. Important piece of information is these residents have submitted 40,774 applications in the voters list in the 16 assembly elections. The district election officials received as many as 55,052 applications on Saturday is known. It is said that the residents were in a hurry to get their names registered in the electoral rolls because of the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections in the first week of March.

Many residents have submitted their application forms many months back. The shocking news is many residents have complained about the absence of their names on the electoral rolls. It was revealed that after shifting their homes last year the names of many residents were deleted from the rills by electoral officials.

It was brought out that the District Election Office had directed the officials to screen bogus entry on the electoral polls. This has made the officials to delete many names from the rolls after visiting the previous rental accommodation. As per the officials it is clear that over 49% of residents in Chennai depended o the rental accommodation and changing the address on the rolls was a tough task for many.

The information collected is a resident from Reddipalayam Street Ward 91 of Mogappair West had submitted a change in the address on 14h October 2018 from Padi. Point is this change of address was not recorded by the officials. The person was asked to visit the Maduravoyal Taluk Office by the officials. According to this person these camps were of no use as the officials were not able to make the changes at the camp itself.

As per Mr. P.V. Tamil Selvan, former councillor of Mogappair, many electors who had submitted applications were not included in the rolls. He then pointed out that atleast 25 names belonging to their area were not included on the rolls.
