Posted on: 23/Jan/2019 5:46:49 PM
In the next 3 months, there are going to be more than 4000 parking spots in Chennai city as Smart Parking System is likely to bring forth the same. The project debut will be at Anna Nagar and then Purasawalkam, Besant Nagar and at Marina Beach following which the other parts of the city will have the same too. With this, the Chennai Corporation is likely to make an overall revenue of Rs 20 crore.

Residents can easily identify such free parking spots in main city roads with the help of GCC Smart Parking application. This can be used just by paying a meagre fees amount.  There will be CCTV cameras surveilling these parking spots. And the same shall be used by the Chennai Traffic Police to identify defaulters.

The necessary works are taking place in full swing. About one year ago, revised tenders were issued for the project. Speaking about this, the senior Chennai Smart City official said the project is to get launched at areas where cameras are already present. This includes areas like Anna Nagar. The necessary permission to set up cameras in the remaining locations (where cameras are not present) are also granted. The project is likely to get launched in February.

The vendor to install cameras is Toorq Media Services which is at present installing cameras at Purasawalkam and Besant Nagar. Toorq along with Chennai Traffic Police are identifying available parking locations across Chennai to set up this facility. According to the volume of traffic and road size and type of road, two-wheeler and four-wheeler parking facilities are being set up so that there is no hindrance to the vehicular movement.

According to what officials say, works towards setting up the parking policy is currently being done.
