Makara Vilakku Pooja today at Sabarimala temple

The special occasion of the Makara Vilakku Pooja at the famous Sabarimala Sri Ayappan temple is conducted today (Monday, 14th January)
The president of the Thiruvithankur Devaswom Board, A. Padmakumar, explained in this regard:
‘All arrangements for performing the sacred ‘Makara Vilakku Pooja’ has been carried out. The sacred jewel crate from Pandhanam Palace is scheduled to reach the ‘Sannidhanam’ at 6.00 PM. Immediately, the deity of Lord Sri Ayyappan will be adorned with these jewels and a special ‘Deeparadhanai’ will be performed at 7.30 PM.
All facilities required by the devotees visiting Sabarimala for this special occasion have been arranged. The age-old tradition and belief are that the Lord Sri Ayyappan appears as the sacred ‘Makara Jyothi’ at the Ponnambalamedu and offers Darshan to his devotees. A large number of devotees visit Sabarimalai for this holy occasions every year. The 3-member committee formed by the Kerala High Court inspected the safety/security arrangements made in the locations of Nilakkal and Pampa Sannidhanam and expressed their satisfaction with the arrangements.
A large squad of police has been deployed at Sabarimala for this occasion.
