The smart ration card holders who are not interested in the cash gift of Rs. 1000 given for Pongal festival, the state government Department of Food has arranged a facility to surrender the same to the state government.

The state government of Tamil Nadu is distributing a Pongal festival special gift pack to the ration card holder containing raw rice, sugar, sugarcane, cashew nuts, raisins, cardamom and a cash of Rs. 1000.

Subsequently, the Department of Food has arranged a facility to surrender this gift pack.  An official from the State Department of Food and Cooperatives explained regarding this:

The notion that all the free schemes offered by the government should only be for the poorest section of people in the society has gained strong grounds. In this scenario, the state government has ordered the distribution of the above Pongal gift pack to all smart ration card holders.

The ration card holders who are ready to forego the above gift need to enter the Mobile App TNEPDS. Select the option of the consumer and register the given mobile number. Immediately an OTP (One Time Password) will be received. Register this OTP and go to the option to forego the gift pack. Click the items not required – either the gift pack or the cash of Rs, 1000. The arrangement will be made not to send these items for this card holder’s ration shop. So far, 45 card holders have foregone the cash gift of Rs. 1000.
