No Pongal Holidays for the ration shop staff

Posted on: 30/Dec/2018 12:23:26 PM
The staff of the ration shops in Tamil Nadu has been barred from taking leave during the Pongal Holidays.

More than 30000 staff including the salespersons, weighing- in-charge, etc., are employed in the ration shops in Tamil Nadu.

The state government of Tamil Nadu is set to give the Pongal Special gift package to the ration shop customers including raw rice, sugar, cashew, raisin, cardamom, and sugarcane. So, the Department of Cooperatives has barred these employees from taking leave from tomorrow (31st December) until 15th January.

An official from the cooperatives explained regarding this:

In order that the distribution of the Pongal special gift package to the ration shop customers, the Joint Registrars of the Districts have been ordered not to sanction/allow leave for the employees during this period.

Generally, all the rations hops remain closed on the 1st and 2nd Fridays of the month, Instead, the rations shops will remain open on the respective Sundays.

Accordingly, though it would have been a holiday on the 2nd Friday of the month of January, the shops will function for the distribution of the Pongal gift packages.
