An electronic board outside GH, Chennai to show data on post-mortem

It is known that post mortem or autopsy is conducted on the dead persons in the cases of unnatural deaths like suicide, accidents etc and this is to find the cause for the death. Normally the relatives and friends of the dead persons would be waiting outside the mortuary anxiously to know the details regarding the death. To help these anxious relatives and friends, Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital or GH in Chennai has come up with a new idea.
It is now revealed that an electronic board, displaying the number of bodies to undergo post-mortem and the expected time for this procedure, would be kept outside the GH in Chennai. By this real time information about the post-mortem would be got. This would also reduce chances of corruption plus in avoiding conflicts with the mortuary staffs.
The information that gathered was the forensic medicine department has started putting up handwritten display boards with details including time of receiving the body plus the name of the police station that has registered the case, status of inquest and the expected time of post-mortem etc. There were few complaints received by GH about the post-mortem staffs, who demanded money to take out the dead bodies out of freezer and release them after post mortems, in the last few months. Similar complaints from the relatives of the patients were also received inside ward is known.
On Friday, 21st December 2018, Hospital Dean, Dr. R. Jayanthy grabbed many eyeballs when she spoke about the discussions that took place with the police department officials in the months of August and October. She then spoke about the hospital that has added more than 120 high resolution cameras on the campus to avoid corruption and other crimes inside the ward. Following the charges of corruption, officials from DVAC raided many government hospitals a week back is known. The piece of information is atleast 5 staffs of various wards of GH, Chennai were terminated as the patients complained about the harassment for bribes in the last 6 months of time. The dean also added that enquiry was initiated against 5 permanent staffs and these staffs have been transferred to other departments pending inquiry.
