Chennai Corporation plans to buy more beach cleaning machines

After trial run of beach cleaning machines Greater Chennai Corporation has planned to buy five such machines under the part of tourism department measure. The central government runs the cleaning project with the name Bharat Darshan. Through the funds acquired from the project evaluated the machines costing Rs 70 lakh per equipment will be bought for Chennai’s beaches. Three machines are allocated for Marina beach and two for Besant Nagar beach said one of the officials of Chennai Corporation.

Now currently corporation owns two machines to clean beaches daily in mornings and evenings for one hour. Officials gained feedback and reported the hours of cleaning is not enough or efficient to meet the enormous cleaning task in these main beach spots of Chennai. The beaches cannot be cleaned manually on regular basis. With this demand the corporation finally decided to buy more machines under the central government scheme oriented with tourist department.

Many public and activist opinions express the inactivity of such machines for most of the times. The maintenance of the machines were not properly planned and executed making it to form residual impurities leading to malfunction of the machines. So the corporation should take necessary measures to restrict plastic usages and for storing large scale dumps formed inside the beach premises. The finalization of buying more machines should be coherent with measures resolving wastes in the beach and observation of plastic usage said many experts concerned with environment.

Corporations also plans to buy canal cleaning machine with an estimated budget of Rs 5 Crore. It will be used along with another amphibian in the times of monsoon and cyclones.
