Travel from Chennai to Mysore in just 5 hours soon

By the year 2030, it is likely that your travel hours between Chennai and Mysore will get largely cut by 5 hours! Yes, the proposal by the German Government to lay a high-speed rail network between the two cities is being accepted by the Railway Board.

German Ambassador Martin Ney had submitted a feasibility study for the project along this 435 km route. Railway Board Chairman Ashwani Lohani assessed the report and gave his nod for the same.

In the report, it is stated that at a speed of 320 kmph, the distance of 435km can be covered, thus reducing the entire travel time between Chennai and Mysore from present count of 7 hours to 2 hours and 20 minutes.

The German government had commissioned and gave funding to the study. In addition to be very viable, it is also a very effective solution in order to manage traffic growth.

According to reports, the overall estimated infrastructure cost is Rs 1 lakh core. Further, an extra cost of Rs 150 crore will be applicable towards rolling stock.

German report states that the route via Chennai, Arakkonam, Bengaluru and Mysore will likely be getting elevated by 85 percent and there will be about 11 tunnels. With this, travelling between Chennai and Bengaluru will be reduced from 100 minutes to 40 minutes.

The report states that India should get its conventional railway system integrated with high-speed line rather than having an exclusive high speed corridor. This should not simply reduce the cost but also dip the land acquisition issues. The plan was initially rejected claiming that the present network system is highly over saturated and too complicated.

The existing proposal is being analyzed. Both the mixed models as well as the dedicated mode were deeply analyzed by the Germans. And the detailed study clearly stated that the mode is highly viable.
