It is known that a two hour time period from 6am to 7am in the morning and 7pm to 8 pm in the evening was allotted by the Supreme Court for bursting the crackers during deepavali. This was mainly done to avoid pollution. Many people did not take this seriously and are in trouble now. It is now said that many cases have been registered against the people for bursting crackers outside the 2 hour time period allotted by the SC.  It must be noted that the deepavail was celebrated with traditional fervour in Tamil Nadu yesterday, 6th November 2018.

As per a senior police official detailed reports regarding the registered cases would be given on Wednesday. Police later revealed that there were few tense moments in the police stations in Tirupur and Coimbatore districts as many people were taken to the police stations. Later these people were released after being warned by the police officials for not obeying the SC order on bursting the crackers within the time limits. There were also few who suffered injuries due to explosion of the crackers and they were treated.

According to Shweta Narayan, who is a Chennai based environmental activist, the deepavali day was quieter than the last year. She then threw light on the violations of the apex court order by many people who burst crackers outside the allotted time limit. She later spoke about how she had filed 2 complaints with the local police station. The crackers were burst anytime in the day and it created many issues for others. She finally highlighted the inefficiency of the police personnel and said they were not able to regulate this. It must not be forgotten that The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board had said that in all the corporation limits it would study the air quality 7 days before and after deepavali.

Air quality index or AQI was measured and it ranged between ‘good’ and ‘moderate’ levels with average index value at 64 in the last 24 hours till 4pm on Tuesday, 6th November. This was confirmed by the Central Pollution Control Board or CPCB. Unmindful of the apex court orders, kids burst crackers in Chennai.
