In the month of May in 2017 a bus shelter opposite to the Iyyappanthangal bus terminus was vandalised. The commuters since then have been demanding a new bus shelter. Few months back it was summer season and many commutes suffered from heat as there was no bus shelter. This is monsoon time and the commuters are finding it difficult due to the rains.

A commuter in Iyyappanthangal expressed her feelings regarding absence of bus shelter. She spoke about how in the last week she and others have to rush inside the nearest shop to take shelter.

She later explained that during the summer season the sun was unbearable and it created many issues for the commuters due to lack of bus shelter. She added that many commuters used their umbrellas to save them from scorching heat of the sun. Two years ago, an amount of Rs 25000 was crowd sourced by some local residents for the purpose of bus shelter and later this bus shelter was damaged by some persons. The commuters have been facing lots of issues from sun and rains in the last two years.

A civic activist expressed his thoughts and spoke about how Iyyappanthangal panchayat does not have a president and that was the reason why civic activist took upon the issue. He then said that crowd funding was done for the purpose of building a bus shelter. He revealed that panchayat, BDO or Block Development Office, Highways department etc did not show any interest for the commuters. This civic activist threw light on how petition was sent to the above mentioned three departments plus police department and no action was taken. According to an official belonging to Kundrathur BDO, the work was initiated 6 months back and because of the non-availability of land along the road the work to build bus shelter was cancelled. The official later highlighted that Alandur MLA sanctioned an amount of Rs 5 lakh for the construction of the bus shelter and because of the unavailability of land the work was cancelled. He finally spoke about the responsibility of the state highways in providing the land for the construction of bus shelter.
