Train-18 launched by ICF with more plans within 2020

Integral Coach Factory (ICF) launched India’s first Train-18 on Monday and further five more additional Train-18 sets are planned to manufacture by the end of April 2020. The official confirmation of five additional sets were announced by Chairman of Railway Board, Ashwani Lohani.
Train-18, India’s first engine less, self-propelled coach train completely air-conditioned is poised to replace the current LHB coaches. The new train launched by ICF has advanced features with a maximum speed of 220 kmph and 360 degree rotatable chairs. Infotainment features, advanced acceleration and deceleration, modern braking system and footstep in coach’s doorway are some of the new features in Train-18 series of coach sets.
Initially the trains will be tested in the trail phase on the Moradabad-Bareilly and Kota-Sawai Madhopur stretch next month. The total cost of the project is Rs 100 crore which can be reduced to Rs 50 to 70 crore if the manufacture work is outsourced to a foreign company. With the initial trail run Railway boars may order more Train-18 sets which has more advantage than the existing coaches in terms of time and speed.
Electro-Pneumatic smart braking system is one of the key feature of the newly launched train which was imported from Hungary. Importing such main machinery components reduce time and saves money. When manufactured domestically the rate of production and cost increases exponentially said one of the officials of railway board.
