It is known that the Lone Square Park present in Broadway has been used to store the construction materials for the metro rail work in north Chennai. The news is this park remains in shambles as there are leftover materials and garbage strewn all over. The restoration of this park in north Chennai has not started by CMRL or Chennai Metro Rail Limited though the construction of metro stations in Mannady and Washermenpet are almost complete. It must be noted that shanties have sprung up along the park boundaries. This park in Broadway used to be the lung space for the residents of congested locality housing commercial and residential units.

A resident belonging to Broadway spoke about the importance of this park. She spoke about how after shifting to this place a decade back she and others went to the park for evening walk. It provided her different environment to relax. Now People coming to this park would be shocked to see construction material, fittings and other debris instead of the greenery that was present in the past. This park had a fountain and around the fountain many people sat and chatted. This fountain is now soiled and dry. Another resident spoke about how this park used to be very famous with many people visiting in the evenings. Few residents later spoke about the plants and trees that were removed from this park and how this park was converted to an open air storage facility.

A person spoke about how in the year 2003 the proposal of converting the park to parking lot for trucks was put off and how the councillor moved a petition against that proposal. He then threw light on how 5 years ago metro rail took over the park and how the trees were cut down and huts have come up. He expressed his unhappiness regarding the restoration of the park and said no action was taken to restore the park. It is now brought out by a senior official belonging to CMRL that this park which was once the centre of attraction for many people would be restored by March 2019. The senior official later spoke about how the work is at different stages of completion. He added that other departments were also involved and it was not just CMRL alone. The official finally spoke about the work for restoration of the park and said it would be taken up and it would be completed by March 2019.
