What is zinc deficiency and how it could affect us?

Minerals are very important for our growth, development of our body. The minerals also make us stay hale and healthy. It is important to mention that zinc is very essential mineral when compared to other minerals. The cells present in our body would function well only when zinc is present in adequate quantities. Many heath based issues occurs due to the deficiency of zinc.

Reasons for zinc deficiency:

There are many reasons for this zinc deficiency in us. The reasons are not consuming enough amounts of zinc, losing excess amounts of zinc due to poor absorption, addiction of alcohol, cancer, celiac disease, ulcerative colitis etc.

These are the different health related issues that could take place in us when there is deficiency of zinc.

Inflammation:

This is one of the most important health issue caused due to lack of zinc in us. Leaky gut occurs in us due to deficiency of zinc and this is associated with inflammation. Swelling in the joints plus chronic fatigue occurs due to this inflammation.

Hair loss:

This hair loss could be due to number of reasons and deficiency of zinc is one factor that could result in hair loss in the humans. For hale and healthy hairs zinc is very essential. Thinning of hairs and hair loss takes place when there deficiency of zinc in us. By increasing the intake of zinc the hair loss could be prevented.

Diarrhoea:

Most of us usually think that water and food contamination cause diarrhoea. We are not aware of the fact that diarrhoea could also be due to lack of zinc in us. It is good to take supplements of zinc when diarrhoea happens.

Cold, allergies etc:

Lack of mineral zinc could be a reason for frequent cold, infections, allergies etc in us. It is known that zinc plays a huge role in the formation of T-Cells and these T-cells are responsible for immunity of a person.

Skin issues:

People get affected by many skin related issues like psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis etc. It is said that deficiency of zinc could also cause these issues. By increasing the consumption of zinc these issues could be avoided.

Poor wound healing:

Wounds occur in us due to many reasons. Sometimes healing of the wounds takes place slowly. In that case intake of zinc would be superb for us.

Which foods are rich in zinc?

Persons who are deficient in zinc must consume foods that are rich in mineral zinc. Foods like baked beans, yoghurt, milk, oatmeal, fortified breakfast cereals etc have high amounts of zinc. Lean meats, fruits, vegetables also have high quantities of zinc. It is very clear that those who consume variety of foods are more likely to consume enough zinc.
