Vegetable prices up in Koyambedu wholesale market

Vegetable prices have been going up in the last few days in the Chennai Koyambedu wholesale vegetable market. With the Tamil Calendar month of Aadi being completed and Avani having started, the demand for the vegetables is up and hence the prices have started increasing.
Carrot, which was sold at Rs. 40 per kg last week, is now sold at Rs. 55 per kg. Brinjal, which was sold at Rs. 25 per kg, is now sold at Rs. 35 per kg. Ginger was sold at a maximum price of Rs. 110 per kg.
Most of the vegetables for the Koyambedu market are transported from the states of Karnataka and Andhra. At the same time, there is no major disturbance/change in the prices of the vegetable due to recent excessive rains in several districts of Tamil Nadu. As it has been raining very heavily in Kerala, the arrival of ginger has been greatly affected. As the Tamil calendar month of Avani has just started, there are many auspicious wedding days coming up. So, the demand for the vegetables has increased. Thus, there are prospects for the vegetable prices to go up further.
