All India Radio completing 80 years of service

AIR - All India Radio Chennai is celebrating the 80th year of public broadcasting today (June 16, 2018). The medium was established in the year 1938 with two channels. Now the broadcast extends to six terrestrials, three DTH and three worldwide Digital Radio Mondiale channels.
Marking the special occasion AIR will broadcast special programs today, Journey of light, Carnatic Music and Selected topics of Thenkachi KO. Swaminathan playing as prominent parts. Eighty years of reminiscences from various other fields will be aired today for the remembrance and memory of different events concerned with All India Radio.
According to the press release of AIR, the voice recordings of famous personalities such as Thiru. V. Kalyanasundaram, Pulavar Keeran, Bharatidasan, Rajagopalachari, Sivaji Ganesan, M.S.Swaminathan, M.S. Subbulakshmi, R. K. Narayan, Thiru Muruga Kirubanandha Variyar, Ki. Va. Jagannathan and Mu. Varadarajan will be broadcasted today for the historical relevance meant to symbolize AIR.
