Located in Chennai city, Pallavaram is an important residential place and there are as many as 39 wards present in this Pallavaram municipality.

The latest news that has come out is Pallavaram municipality has started a scheme and according to this scheme protected drinking water free of cost would be provided to the households here.  It is now revealed that reverse osmosis or RO plants have been installed at 25 locations in this Pallavaram municipality and that is tremendous.

According to Malliga who is the owner of a road side eatery in Pallavaram- Thoraipakkam Radial Road, the water that was supplied for long time was of superb quality. In the recent times this has been erratic. She also threw light on how the Paalar water that was supplied was good.

Malliga further spoke about the reverse osmosis water being given free of cost and expressed her happiness in this regard.  It is important to note that one pot per family has been filled by the female residents here and this water is enough for cooking as well as drinking.

Presence of poor terrain and narrow road width has resulted in the inability to operate water tankers in these places. Now it is said that RO treated water plants are amazing for the residents of such places. This was confirmed by the water supply officials plus municipal administration.

Estimated cost of each unit of RO plant is Rs 5 lakh and each plant has got the capacity to purify as many as 200 litres of water per hour. This RO plant could be operated for 4 to 5 hours so that 1000 litres of water could be got which would be sufficient. This was later confirmed by the Pallavaram MLA Mr. E. Karunanidhi. He also spoke about how the installation of these RO plants has come at right time just before the beginning of summer season.

Mr Karunanidhi further spoke about how most RO plants get piped supply and deep bore wells are utilized for sourcing water in those places where piped water is not available. To ensure proper use of water for equitable distribution, chip embossed smart cards were used and there are many technical problems in this.
