Paying water tax is a must and it should not be avoided. It is now said that on Thursday 1st February 2018, Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board acted strictly and sealed a shopping complex in Purasawalkam locality.

The shocking piece of news is this shopping complex has not paid water tax for ten years. A huge amount of Rs 24 lakhs in tax was not paid by Deensha complex in Ponnappa Street in Purasawalkam.

It must not be forgotten that recently the building owners were taken to court by the metro water officials over non payment of water taxes for last ten years. The court gave orders to the owners of this shopping complex to pay the water tax.

According to a senior engineer, the owners did not bother about the court’s decision and did not pay the water tax amount of Rs 24 lakh. Hence the shopping complex in Purasawalkam was sealed.

It must be noted that Rs 32 as water tax must be paid by this building every year and Rs 7800 must be paid as water charge.

The officials belonging to the Metropolitan water supply and sewerage board also sealed another building located in Erukancherry in North Chennai as water tax amount close to Rs 59000 was not paid by the owners of that building.
