Plan to build a new arch in Chennai Beach

The Tamil Nadu Assembly Diamond Jubilee Memorial Arch, for which 1.33 crore has been earmarked, is to come up between the state secretariat and War Memorial on the Rajaji Salai for this construction former DMK legal wing functionary has filed a public interest writ petition in the Madras high court opposing the state`s proposal to build an arch to mark the diamond jubilee. Division bench comprising Justice R Banumathi and Justice K K Sasidharan issued notices to the government and instructed advocate-general A Navaneethakrishnan on Friday to file his response by December 6.
Justice Banumathi asked counsel for the petitioner what the latter had done in the case of other encroachments in the state. that the problem is the arch or as the builders that are the steps he had taken to remove encroachments in other areas of the state. Asked by justice
