Rotary Club of Madras The Water Journey – Chennai to Rajasthan

Rotary Club of Madras (RCM) is leading 36 Chennai School students (Interactors) on a 4 day ‘Water Study’ tour to Rajasthan as part of an initiative to create and instill amongst children on the importance of water conservation. The team was sent off by Rotary District Governor Rtn. Raja Seenivasan, President of RCM Rtn. Rajendran Sabanayagam and other Rotarians yesterday evening.

The study group led by Rtn. A. S. Venkhat Ramani, Director, New Generation will return on 30th October.Water, also known as the elixir of life is the driving force of Nature; understanding the importance of conserving water this ‘Water Study’ tour will visit the Triveni Water institute in Jaipur. The institute is a centre of excellence focusing on issues related to water management including facilitating Zero Water discharge, Rainwater harvesting, waste water treatment and desalination. The visit will also give the students an opportunity to interact with experienced professionals and water conservationists and gain valuable knowledge that will help them understand the importance of initiatives that can help us conserve water.

During the 4 day tour, the interactors will also visit places in Rajasthan which suffer acute water scarcity. Phagi, located around 50 km from Jaipur is one such village where people walk a long distance daily to fetch water from ponds and wells. Students will spend time with the villagers to understand their plight and the measures they take to conserve water.
36 students of classes 8th-10th from 12 city schools were selected for the Water Study tour. The visit has been organised to create awareness among children on water conservation and RCM believes that through them the message will reach the fellow 4000 interactors and the society in a larger and better phase.
