Thai Poosam Festival at Palani: Chariot procession on 9th Feb

The famous Thai Poosam festival in the Palani Periyanayaki temple commenced yesterday (Friday, 3rd February) with the sacred flag hoisting ceremony.

The 10-day Thai Poosam festival at the Palani Periyanayaki Amman temple started with the flag-hoisting ceremony.Before the flag-hoisting ceremony, special abhishekas and aradhanas were performed for the deities of Muthukumaraswamy, Valli, and Devasena. The special poojas were formed on the temple flag-tree. A yellow coloured flag with the cock, spear, and peacock was hoisted.

The joint commissioner of the Palani Dhandayudhapani Swamy temple K Rajamanickam and Deputy Commissioner R. Menaka participated in the flag-hoisting ceremony along with thousands of devotees.

The most important event of the 10-day festival, the chariot procession, is scheduled at 4.00 PM on 9th February.

On this grand and famous occasion of this 10-day festival, the devotees from near and are reaching Palani in large numbers.

In a press release from Tamil Nadu Transport Corporation (Madurai) Managing Director Mr. M. Balakrishnaswamy, it is informed that special buses are set to be operated from Dindigul, Madurai, Trichy, Karaikkudi, Natham, Pudhukkottai, Theni, Karur, Erode, Coimbatore, and Tirupur to Palani for the special occasion of the grand Thai Poosam festival. Around 350 buses are scheduled for this special service.
