An information has been given as per the draft proposed by the Minister S. P. Velumani that the local elections cannot be conducted before April.

Earlier, the local elections were scheduled to be conducted in Tamil Nadu on 17th and 19th October.

However, the seat allotments were not properly given. For example, in the 200 wards in Chennai city, not a single seat was allotted for the Ancient tribes. As this is also against the Panchayat Raj Act, the opposition party DMK filed a case seeking the cancellation of the election orders proposed by the state government and asked for the proper allotment of seats.

As per this petition, te High Court cancelled the local elections scheduled in October. When this case came up for enquiry on 27th, the Chennai High Court ordered the government to issue a new order about local elections. Following this, the state election commission had informed that it planned to conduct the local elections before 30th April.

In this scenario, the petition for extending the tenure of the special officials of the local administrations was put up in the Legislative Assembly. It was informed in that proposal as the election officials were involved in the school examination activities, it was not possible to conduct the local elections before April. Now, it is expected that the local elections might be conducted only after April.
