Waste water treatment plant to come up in Koyambedu

Posted on: 30/Dec/2016 12:00:40 PM
The Managing Director of VA Tech Wabag Rajiv Mittal said that a wastewater treatment plant that will recycle 45 million litres of domestic water for industry usage will be built in two years, said Rajiv Mittal, managing director and CEO of VA Tech Wabag on Thursday.

Wabag, in consortium with IDE Technologies, has bagged a Rs 594 crore contract from the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board to build the plant in Koyambedu. The treated water will be supplied to industries at Irungattukottai, Sriperumbudur and Oragadam through a 72km pipeline.

After delivering the T S Narayanaswami Memorial Endowment Lecture at AC Tech, Anna University, Mr. Mittal said, Our technology will convert sewage water into an almost drinking water in quality. It will be given to industries, so they won`t take away our potable water. By this, both domestic consumer and the industry will benefit. We will get the plant ready in two years.

The company would also operate and maintain the plant for period of 15 years. The challenge here is to have a reliable process; it has to be cost effective; lifecycle cost has to be lower and it should be maintenance free. We cannot have downtime of the plant because the water supply has to be 24X7 for the industries.
