Chennai will receive a few spells of rain or thundershowers on Thursday

The well-marked low-pressure area in the South-East Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression as expected.
Tamil Nadu receives more rain during the northeast monsoon. The northeast monsoon usually sets somewhere near 20th October but this year the monsoon has begun on 30th. Because of this there are sporadic rains in the coastal Tamil Nadu.
At this juncture, well-marked low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression. Because of the intermittent rains due to this caused hardship to school going children. There was traffic snarl on Poonamallee High Road and Anna Salai due to rains.
According to S. Balachandran, director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre, Chennai, the well-marked low pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal is expected to move northwestward, become a depression and intensify further. It has not directly influenced the rainfall so far.Rainfall over the State in the next few days will depend on the movement and wind speed and intensity of the weather system.
