Smart City works begin in 20 cities including Chennai

Among the dream schemes of Narendra Modi is Smart Cities Mission. Discussions for the same had been taking place in the past few months. As the first phase for the same, 20 cities including Chennai and Coimbatore are selected. Today, works to set up Smart City in 20 cities are to begin today.
In the event set to take place today, Narendra Modi is set to kick-start a total of 82 missions at a cost of Rs 1770 crore. This is inclusive of setting up of Smart city. The central government will provide Rs 100 crore for the same. The list of 20 selected cities is as follows
Tamil Nadu: Coimbatore, Chennai
Orissa: Bhubaneshwar
Maharashtra: Pune and Solapur
Rajasthan: Jaipur, Udhaipur
Gujarat: Surat, Ahmedabad
Kerala: Cochin
Andhra Pradesh: Visakapatnam, Kakhinada
Karnataka: Thovinakere, Pelakavi
Madhya Pradesh: Indore, Jabalpur, Bhopal
Punjab: Guwahati, Assam, Ludhiyana
Delhi: New Delhi
