Monsoon rain knocks back

After a break of couple of days, the Monsoon rains have now finally knocked back here in Chennai and North Coastal parts of Tamil Nadu.

4mm rainfall within just 24 hours from 8.30 am on Tuesday was recorded. Moderate showers of 68 mm were observed in Cuddalore.

Chennai is likely to receive moderate rain showers and thunderstorms until 26th June. According to weather reports, morning hours, night and late evening time of the day will be more likely to receive rain showers.

Most parts of coastal regions in Tamil Nadu are receiving normal monsoon conditions. There is a fresh cyclonic circulation observed on west central Bay of Bengal, and this has caused this fresh monsoon surge. Coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh and North Tamil Nadu are prone to get affected by the monsoon rain until 26th June.

This circulation is set to migrate inland towards the west and have its effect in parts of Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. This will be followed by monsoon subduing with the passage of system from 27th June.

Tamil Nadu including Chennai being in a rain shadow region did not receive much of rain showers. To note, it is during the northeast monsoon season that the state receives maximum rainfall. This is between October and December.
