Tamil Nadu State Legislative Assembly to commence today

In the presence of temporary speaker S. Semmalai, 231 new members including Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa will be administered oath of office. The term of office of 14th Tamil Nadu State Assembly comes to an end on 22nd. Out of 232 constituencies except Aravakurichi and Thanjavur assembly constituencies, the AIADMK won in 134 constituencies and came into power for second time. On 23rd May, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa including 28 ministers took oath. On the afternoon S. Semmalai took charge as temporary speaker.
At this juncture, the first session of the 15th Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly will begin on May 25, 2016 at 11 am. The session will begin with Speaker S. Semmalai administering oath of office to 232 new members.
The election of new Speaker and Deputy Speaker will take place on June 3, 2016.
