Spectrum usage charges are to be slashed from 5 percent to 3 percent by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India. This could lower consumer tariffs for calls and broadband while also freeing up cash for debt laden service operators.
Telecom Ministry is expected to approach the Cabinet for its nod to reduce the spectrum usage charges from the existing 5 percent to 3 percent of the revenue earned by companies from telecom services. The move is also expected to ease the cash for debt-laden mobile service operators reeling under the impact of costly spectrum buys in the auctions.
