UAV (Unarmed Aerial Vehicle) - The Phantom Series

The Chinese Company DJI has developed and introduced a series of UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) called Phantom.

The UAVs are also called drones or quadcopters.

They are intended for recreational and commercial aerial cinematography and photography. The body frames are made of composite materials. Propulsion is provided by four two-blade propellers driven by four electric engines mounted at the ends of the x-shaped body.

So far, 6 Versions of Phantom drones have been released: Phantom 1, Phantom 2, Phantom 2 (Vision), Phantom 2 (Vision)+, Phantom FC40, and Phantom 3 (3 models).

Applications:

The commercial use of drones is still in a legal gray area.Still, several segments of industry are open to its usage and already seeing many benefits.

Among their many applications, the most well known are:

  • Hurricane hunting
  • 3-D mapping of landscape
  • Nature protection
  • Farming
  • Search and rescue
Drones are used in entertainment& in business. The Fox Broadcasting Company used Phantom 2 Vision+ quadcopters promoted the show 24 during the San Diego Comic-Con International 2014.

Popularity

The Phantom series of UAVs has been popular with hobby enthusiasts because of its consumer-friendly appearance and easy-to-fly features.

On July 23, 2014 Fox Broadcasting Company is reported using several Phantom 2 Vision+ quadcopters to promote its show during the San Diego Comic-Con International 2014.

A new community of drone enthusiasts called SkyPixel has recently been created as a means to connect and support drone users.

Around the world, drones are being the subject of regulations for safety reasons.
