TN lawyer elected as Bar Council Chairman

Mr. S. Prabhakaran, a lawyer from Tamil Nadu, was elected the Chairman of the Bar Council of India (BCI) on Sunday. BCI is the highest office for practicing advocates in the country and has the powers to regulate legal education and control the practice of law.
Mr. Prabhakaran takes over from Manan Kumar Mishra from Bihar. He was elected as a member of the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in 2011, after which he was chosen as the State council`s representative in New Delhi. He was nominated as the Chairman of the BCI’s disciplinary committee in 2012. In 2013, he was elected as the Co - Chairman of the BCI. Mr. Prabhakaran has been the President of the Madras High Court Advocates Association (MHAA) three times. He also serves as the President of the Tamil Nadu Advocates Association (TNAA).
