JK Tripathy - New Chennai Police Commissioner

J.K. Tripathy, a 1985-batch officer of the Indian Police Service, took charge as the new Commissioner of Police, Chennai. He replaced T. Rajendran posted as Additional Director-General of Police (Prisons), Chennai.
Speaking to reporters after assuming charge, Mr Tripathy promised to accord top priority to maintaining law and order in the city. As chief minister J. Jayalalithaa has said, maintenance of law and order will be top priority. We will deal with rowdyism with an iron hand, he said.
The Chennai City police force is geared up and prepared to face any challenge to ensuring that law and order is maintained in the city, Mr Tripathy added.
The police force will ensure that people do not fear crime and accord priority to the safety of schoolchildren and the elderly, the new commissioner said.
