CMs announcement in the assembly: Amma Cell-phones for Womens self-help Groups!

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Ms. Jayalalithaa announced in the Legislative Assembly that there are plans to distributed cell-phones at the cost of Rs. 15 Crores to all Women`s self-help group trainers in the first phase of the plan.
The Chief Minister was presenting a report under Act 119 that AIADMK formed the women`s self-help Groups in order to improve the social & economic status of women in the state in the year 1991.
Further, Tamil Nadu government introduced the plans for renewed life welfare plans for the poor and economically backward women and people with assistance from the World Bank.
Thanks to this scheme, women`s self groups evolved and grew to become a potent economic force in the state. There are 6.08 lakhs of women`s Self-help Groups operating today with 92 Lakh members!
In order to integrate all the self-help groups in the state, village administration groups have also been formed. Under each of these village administration groups, 20 to 25 self-help groups have been operating.
Social self-help group service trainers undertake the task of monitoring these self-help groups and their progress. The most enthusiastic members in the self-help groups who performed outstandingly are chosen as trainers.
These trainers help to form new self-help groups and train them as well.
To record and monitor the progress of these self-help groups, various records are maintained such as the meetings conducted by self-help groups, subscription payments, details of internal transactions of loans, etc,

In order to enter these data on the registers/records and to monitor their activities, a special software will be created in Tamil Language and the programme would be loaded n the `Amma` cell-phones will be handed over as per the new plan.
In the 1st phase, 20000 social self-help group trainers will be given cell-phones at the cost of Rs. 15 Crores by the government under her leadership.
