Even Aloe Vera has side-effects!

Aloe Vera, a generally popular as an item with rich medicinal properties and used extensively, can produce side-effects if taken in excess. This is caused by some of the ingredients present in Aloe Vera. Here are some of the side-effects:
 
·         Aloe Vera extract is used as a cure for constipation. Aloe Vera contains Anthraquinine which is responsible for this property. However, if taken in excess, it cause diarrhea. It may cause high frequency loose-motion, pains & catches in the joints and dryness in the body. Even if you are a patient suffering from liver or digestion problems, better avoid taking Aloe Vera. Its anti-constipation property can have the opposite effect.
 
·         When aloe Vera is taken along with other medicine, it may react with other medicine to cause side-effects.  So, consult and ensure with your doctor whether it is ok to take Aloe Vera. The anti-constipation property of Aloe Vera may prevent the medicines being absorbed in the body.
 
·         Taking excessive Aloe Vera may lead to reduction in potassium content in your body leading to irregular heart-beat and weakness.
 
·         If you are having some heart condition, excessive consumption of Aloe vera can generate additional adrenalin and harm the body functions.
 
·         Taking aloe vera extract reduces the insulin resistance and reduces the sugar level in the blood. So, if you are patient diagnosed with lack of carbohydrates or in the habit of taking regular insulin tablets, be cautious while taking aloe vera.
 
·         If you are a pregnant or breast-feeding woman, take caution to avoid using Aloe Vera. It can hasten the contracting of womb which may lead to abortion or genetic defects.
 
·         Aloe Vera has the properties to cause irritation and diarrhea. Hence, it is not considered safe for children below the age of 12. It can lead to allergic reactions.
 
·         Taking aloe vera extract may cause pain in the throat or chest, itching, swelling in the skin, irritation, etc.
 
·         If you tend to take more than the prescribed quantity, you will experience the side-effects of aloe vera. However, there is no cause to panic on this issue. If you have planned to take Aloe Vera, it is advisable to consult the doctor first and then decide.
