What happens when you drink Red Bull?

Energy drinks like Red Bull are very popular. These drinks have a high amount of caffeine that gives us energy, not to mention chemicals that may be harmful to the body in the long run. An average can of Red Bull has 80 mg of caffeine and 27.5 gms of sugar. Here is what happens to our body after a sip of Red Bull.

It takes about 10 minutes for caffeine to enter the bloodstream. Once it does, your heart rate and blood pressure will start to rise. The caffeine is at its peak 15 to 45 mins from the first sip. This is time when you will feel alert and able to concentrate very well. Between 30 and 50 minutes, all the caffeine is absorbed into your bloodstream. At this point, your liver starts to respond by absorbing sugar into the bloodstream as well.

About an hour into the drink, the effects of caffeine starts to wear out. Now, the body receives a sugar crash. This will make you feel tired and your energy will start to ebb. It takes 5 to 6 hours for the caffeine to reduce to 50 per cent. This is called the caffeine half life. If you are a woman on birth control it will take you double the time to get to this stage.

Depending on your age and levels of activity, it takes 12 hours for the caffeine to completely leave your body. At about 12 to 24 hours, you will experience caffeine withdrawal symptoms. This may include headaches, irritability or constipation.
