New toll-free helpline launched by the Chennai Corporation

Posted on: 23/Jul/2015 9:18:14 AM
After the High Court directed the civic body to provide a toll-free number for reporting building violations a new helpline has been set up by the Chennai Corporation. A new toll-free helpline (1800-425-1914) for reporting civic issues has been launched.  Residents can also register their complaints over the existing helpline (1913), which is not toll free for all service providers.

The toll-free helpline is expected to improve reporting of building rule violations in the city. According to officials, only 11.7 lakh of the estimated 18 lakh properties have been assessed for property tax. A number of the assessed buildings have been modified without the approval of the Chennai Corporation.

Complaints regarding parks, roads, streetlights, stormwater drains and public health will also be accepted by the call centre at Ripon Building. The calls will be recorded. Once a complaint on building violation is registered on this number, the civic body will initiate action against the building owner after verifying the plan approval issued earlier.
