NOW IT IS THE TURN OF TOMATO...

Posted on: 27/Dec/2010 12:05:12 AM
Normally the prices of vegetables would rise in winter as in winter growth of vegetables slow, finally resulting in half the normal supply to the cities. The Koyambedu market in Chennai is no exception as it has been t receiving only half the normal supply of 400 Lorries of produce during last 15 to 20 days. Even cabbage and brinjal priced at Rs.5 a kg and Rs.10 per kg about two months ago in Koyembedu market are  now sold anywhere between Rs.15 and Rs.30a kg. When they finally to the consumer, the price is Rs 40 and above. Onion price still ruling around Rs 50—ranging between Rs 40 and Rs 55.

Now it is the turn of Tomato, whose pricing soaring last few days. It could well go to Rs 80 mark .We cannot be surprised if it touches Rs 100. There are two things one is demand Vs supply and another is commodity trading where range of Tens has no value. The Marketers are now getting to make fast buck, taking advantage of the scarcity and other compounded problems.
Only Chow Chow is below Rs 20 mark.
