‘CAR ENGINE WILL REFUSE TO START IF IT SENSES YOU ARE DRUNK’

R Muthukumar a 27-year-old Research Scientist at a multi-national company has devised and designed a ‘Hi-tech Drugged Drive Preventive System for Automobiles .Once it is fitted to a vehicle, at first it would warning signals to the driver and then automatically switches off the engine. So Next time you get drunk, remember that you car will refuse to start. The new device if it is found to be working effectively once it is commercially produced, vehicles checks for drunken driving may be dispensed with. The device, as per Muthukumar works on the same principles as that of breath analyzer, currently used by the police. The device has a sensor that analyses the breath of the driver to detect the presence of alcohol content. If the driver tests positive, the LCD screen attached to it displays the message: “Sorry boss, you cannot drive your vehicle now since alcohol content is present in your body.” It will prevent the engine getting ignited.
If no alcohol content is detected, the message on display will be: “Alcohol content not detected.” To check the vision ability of the driver, the device asks him to enter a three-digit number displayed on screen. If he enters it correctly, then he will be asked to enter the code word for his vehicle. This process can prevent vehicle-thefts too, says Mr. Muthukumar.
And if you think you can cheat the device by consuming alcohol after the vehicle is started, you are wrong. For every 30 seconds, the alcohol sensor would get reactivated to ensure that the driver is in ‘proper condition.` The device repeats all the above steps and if you fail to pass the tests, the engine switches off automatically.
The device can be fitted to vehicles either by manufacturers themselves or by vehicle-owners. Mr.Muthukumar says that he has already bagged a gold medal for his product “Automatic Electric Engineering System with Hi-Tech Security System” and 50 other national invention awards.
