UNICEF has informed in a recent report that India lags very much behind on the issues of child birth registration and child marriages.

Under the topic, ‘ Child Rights in South Asia’, the recent report released by UNICEF has released the report.

As per this, during the period 200-2012, the birth of over 7 crore children (up to the age of 3 years) has not been registered in many South Asian countries.

Though some births have been registered, the system of registering all births is still lacking.

Apart fro India, birth registration is very poor in Afghanistan & Bangladesh. Religious beliefs & superstitions are cited to be the reasons for failure to register births.

Bangladesh stands top in the list of countries for maximum child marriages. Many girls, almost two-thirds of the girls, are married below the age of 18. After Bangladesh, India, Afghanistan, India, and Nepal come next in the list of countries of high children marriages.

In South Asia, more than half of the girls below the age of 18 are forced into marriage.

South Asian countries lag behind even in the aspect of vaccinations for children for disease prevention. Even though there has been some development & improvement in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal, the status in India, Afghanistan, and Pakistan continues to be poor.
