Distribution of new ‘Aavin’ Milk Cards stopped!

Posted on: 23/May/2014 3:31:26 PM
With substantial reduction in the quantity of milk received, Aavin has temporarily stopped distribution of the new monthly milk cards.

Right up to last December, Aavin received 25 lakh litres of milk every day. This was reduced to 20 litres during March, 2014. Aavin was forced to convert 25 tons of milk power into milk to adjust the shortfall in receipt.

The private milk suppliers are ready to pay more up to Rs. 5/- per litre as compared the government-run milk cooperative societies. Hence, most of Aavin regular suppliers tend to sell their milk to the private operators and make a good profit, Aavin became aware of this.

By the initiatives taken by the Aavin officials, the receipt of milk started increasing gradually up to the present 23 Lakh litres per day.

Because of the reduction in received quantity and the necessity to use the milk powder, Aavin had temporarily stopped issuing new cards over the last 4 months.

Aavin has decided to issue new cards only after the situation of recipt reaches at least 25 Lakh litres per day.

The milk treatment and conditioning plant built in Kakkanur in Thiruvallur district is nearing completion. Once this is commissioned, new cards making up for up to 1 lakh litres per day will be distributed. Issue of new cards will be stopped till this is done.
